Call for Papers 2026

The organisers of CAA-UK 2026 would like to invite papers, posters, and demos for the 2026 meeting, to be held at the University of Glasgow on the 26th and 27th of November 2026.

The use of quantitative methods and computer applications in heritage is an ever-changing discipline, with new software becoming available and new processes being created every day. We would like to invite the submission of papers and posters related to the general topics of quantitative methods and computer applications in archaeology and heritage. We aim in particular to make the conference a welcoming place for community groups, commercial archaeologists, postgraduate students and early career researchers to present their research.

Papers

Speakers will be allocated a maximum of 15 minutes for presentations, with 5 minutes of questions for each paper. To apply and present a paper, send a title and 150-200 word abstract to Despoina.Sampatakou@glasgow.ac.uk by 16th September 2026.

Posters

For the poster submission there are two categories — both will be displayed for the duration of the conference in the conference common spaces:

  • Full poster — traditional format. To apply and present a poster, send a title and a 150-word abstract to Despoina.Sampatakou@glasgow.ac.uk by 16th September 2026.
  • A Story Through An Image — choose or create an image that conveys an idea about your work, your interest, or your engagement in digital archaeology or heritage, and send it with a title and caption with credits to enter a digital image competition held during the conference. To apply, send your expression of interest with a tentative title to Despoina.Sampatakou@glasgow.ac.uk by 16th September 2026. The image, which must be your own work, has to be printed in advance of the conference and must be of sufficiently high resolution to be reproduced at A4 size (300dpi minimum, 210mm x 297mm or 2480 x 3508 pixels). Preferred formats are TIFF or PNG.

Demos

We will be offering demos throughout the conference and would love to feature yours in the XR Lab! We welcome all immersive and interactive experiences — VR, AR, MR, XR, phone-based, computer games, or any other digital artefact you’d like to share whether it’s a standalone piece or it compliments your paper.
To register your interest, please contact Despoina at Despoina.Sampatakou@glasgow.ac.uk before 1st September 2026 with the following information:

  • Demo title and a brief description of what it is
  • Platform and hardware it runs on (e.g. Meta Quest, PC VR, HoloLens, mobile AR, PC etc.)
  • Whether you are bringing your own hardware or will need equipment provided (we’ll most probably have all you need, but you might want your own equipment)
  • Space or technical requirements (e.g. play area size, PC specs, internet access)
  • How long each demo run takes and how many people can participate at once
  • Whether you will be present to run the demo or if it can run unattended or by own volunteers

Masters Award

There is a Masters award of £100 for those presenting their Masters thesis or dissertation. If you would like to be considered for the award, please flag this when submitting your abstract.

Registration

Registration will open shortly. Keep checking the CAA-UK website for updates.

Fees

This year, we are adopting a tiered approach. The costs are:
